2008 Birch Bay Polar Bear Swim

This year we decided to go out in our kayaks to watch the annual polar bear swim. Since our cabin backs onto Tyrell creek, we put in our kayaks in the creek and paddled out to the bay. Click on any image for a larger version.

The polar bear swim starts at the parking lot for CJs restaurant, and this year they took the plunge at noon.

The swim lasted only about a couple of minutes, and then people rushed out to find something warm to wear. After it winded down, we paddled back.
